Grade Levels and Lesson: 1st, 2nd, & 3rd: "In this course, students will learn about environmental issues and the inspiring people who are working to address them. In the first half of the course, students explore the different ways humans have altered the environment. In the second half of the course, students learn about people who have taken steps to protect the Earth and draw awareness to environmental problems.Each week, students collaborate with their Pen Pals to practice reading, writing, and critical-thinking skills. 4th: "This course connects students to study communities and cultures from around the world. Students will practice reading, writing, and critical thinking skills while learning about life and culture where their Pen Pals live. 5th: "The World Through My Eyes connects students from around the world to learn and share perspectives on globally relevant issues through a series of five short films. These five films, created by teenagers paired with master filmmakers, offer first-person accounts of young people who advocate for peace, equality, and justice in their communities. Pen Pal Schools is offering this new course in partnership with By kids, a non-profit organization, and THIRTEEN, the flagship station of PBS.
